    Tetracycline drugs such as doxycycline may rarely cause a serious increase in pressure inside the skull . The risk of this side effect is greater for women of childbearing age who are overweight or who have had IH in the past. If IH develops, it usually goes away after doxycycline is stopped; however, there is a chance of permanent vision loss or blindness. Get medical help right away if you have

    • Persistent/severe headache
    • Vision changes
    • Persistent nausea/vomiting

    This medication may rarely cause a severe intestinal condition due to a type of resistant bacteria. This condition may occur during treatment or weeks to months after treatment has stopped. Do not use anti-diarrhea or opioid medications if you have any of the following symptoms because these products may make them worse. Tell your doctor right away if you develop

    • Persistent diarrhea
    • Abdominal or stomach pain/cramping
    • Blood/mucus in your stool

    A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including

    • Fever that doesn't go away
    • New or worsening lymph node swelling
    • Rash
    • Itching/swelling
    • Severe dizziness
    • Trouble breathing

    Other things to note

    • Upset stomach, nausea, diarrhea, or mild headache may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
    • Use of this medication for prolonged or repeated periods may result in oral thrush or a new vaginal yeast infection . Contact your doctor if you notice white patches in your mouth, a change in vaginal discharge, or other new symptoms.

    • Take 2 hours before and after minerals & antacids
    • Take on empty stomach 1hr prior or 2 hr after meals
    • May take with food/milk if directed by doctor.
    • Not recommended during pregnancy.

    • For capsule products : Swallow with 8 oz water. Do not lie down for 10min.
    • For capsule, immediate, delay release, biphase products : If available, read the patient package insert. Swallow whole with water. Do not lie down for 10min. Review all drugs you are taking with your doctor.
    • For suspension, reconstituted, oral products : Shake well & measure with dosing spoon/cup/syringe. Skin may be more prone to sunburn. Report severe diarrhea or abdominal pain to doctor.

    • Do not use this drug if you become pregnant. ; This drug is best absorbed on an empty stomach. May take with food or milk to lessen chance of stomach upset if directed by your doctor. ; Take this medication at least 2 hours before or 2 hours after magnesium or aluminum containing antacids, or other products containing calcium, iron or zinc. ; Avoid prolonged or excessive exposure to direct and/or artificial sunlight while using this medication. ; For capsule products : Medication should be taken with plenty of water. ; For capsule products : Do not lie down for at least 10 minutes after taking this medication. ; For capsule, immediate, delay release, biphase products : Swallow whole. Do not chew or crush. ; For capsule, immediate, delay release, biphase products : Take in the morning as directed ; For capsule, immediate, delay release, biphase products : Protect from light ; For suspension, reconstituted, oral products : Shake well before using. ; For suspension, reconstituted, oral products : Important: Finish all this medication unless otherwise directed by prescriber. ;
